Chattanooga River Walk
Sunday, October 23, 2005
The Riverwalk runs from Coolidge Park in North Chattanooga south across the Tennessee River via the Walnut Street Bridge (the longest pedestrian bridge in the world), alongside downtown, northeast through the Bluff View Art District, past the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, by the industrial plants of Amnicola Highway, through the Amnicola Marsh, and terminates at the Fishing Park immediately below the Chickamauga Dam. The Riverwalk is very clean, beautifully landscaped and very wide. Read more here.

Silver Comet Trail
Sunday, June 19, 2005
The Silver Comet Trail (more...) runs from Smyrna, GA to the Alabama line, about 60 miles. Currently the Trail is not continuous from its start to the Georgia-Alabama State Line, It is paved from Smyrna to Rockmart, Georgia, a distance of 42 miles. From there Westward to Cedartown, there is no paved Trail, but it is possible to ride on scenic back roads to Cedartown. From Cedartown to the Georgia-Alabama state line, the Trail is again paved for 8.25 miles.
Here, I am talking to my youngest daughter, who called me on Father's Day while on the trail.
Chicago
Wednesday, May 25, 2005
Looking North up the Chicago River from the Dearborn Street bridge. Across the river on Dearborn and Kinzie Street is the Westin hotel, House of Blues and Harry Carey's restaurant. There are few bike routes in the city, but the savvy cyclist will be rewarded if he can get to the lakefront and ride the 20 miles of the Chicago Lakefront Bike Path. The most used portion is from McCormick Place to Belmont, which includes Miegs Field Airport, the Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, Field Museum, Grant Park, Navy Pier, Oak Street Beach, and Lincoln Park. There are several entrances and exits including some tunnels that will take you across (or under) Lakeshore Drive. At the north end, I exited near the Northwestern campus rode around there and at nearby Loyola.
Boston
Sunday, May 15, 2005
The food court at Quincy Market in Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Boston. Our hotel was ~ 5 blocks away and Quincy Market had a Starbucks at the front entrance. The vendors here must have 100 different cuisines here from all over the world. We ate lunch and snacks here often.
Milwaukee
Tuesday, May 03, 2005

Martin D15
Monday, April 04, 2005
This is me playing my new Martin D15LE. It has a solid Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany back, sides and neck and solid Indian rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and an inlaid single-ring rosette. It's loud, sweet, beautiful, and perfect. It also has an unbelievable mahogany aroma.
Haywood
Sunday, March 13, 2005
Haywood spent the weekend with us while his mom was away. He is an Australian Collie about nine months old. He is very well behaved most of the time. In this picture he has decided to be a good puppy. He can be very high maintenance - especially in the afternoon after his dinner.
... we go on walks and stop by bushes, mailboxes, and all kinds of smelly stuff. I talk to other dogs in the neighborhood. Some are friendly, others are not so friendly. I always try to be nice, I really do.... And, without a leash, I can't think real good, my ears don't work, I go nuts, I just run like crazy. One time I almost got run over by a car. I really did.
Apalachicola Seafood Grill
Saturday, March 05, 2005
Highway 98 takes a right angle in downtown Apalachacola, Florida. On the corner is The Grill. This restaurant has been here since the 1930's. It was the setting for several scenes in the 1997 movie starring Peter Fonda, Ulee's Gold. The biggest fish sandwich I ever saw is on the menu here.
Port St. Joe, FL pier
Wednesday, February 23, 2005
When I was a kid, my buddies and I spent our Summers spearfishing around this pier. It is in St. Joseph's Bay just west of downtown Port St. Joe, Fl two blocks off Highway 98. (Click on the photo for a larger picture.) The largest flounder I ever saw, came out of this bay.
Toucan's in Mexico Beach, FL
We always try to eat here whenever we go to Port St. Joe. The snow crab legs are a good value and are always delicious. Also, try their tuna tataki. It's the nearest thing to sushi you'll get in this little community.

Brookstones Grill Alert
Tuesday, February 22, 2005
I received a Brookstone's Grill Alert talking remote thermometer for Christmas this year. It includes a base station, a remote thermometer, and a probe with a wireless transmitter that monitors your food so that you don't have to. Just set up the base station, connect the probe to the transmitter, and turn on both the base and the handheld unit.
Twice I have decided to smoke (a turkey and a Boston butt) over the weekend when it was cold and raining out. The smoker was just off the deck in the backyard and I monitored the temperature from the kitchen window - about 20 feet away. I actually carried the remote upstairs ~ 50 feet away. When your entree reaches the temperature you select, it audibly says, "You're entree is ready.".
Read the cnet.com review here....
I lost the manual and couldn't remember how to synch-up the base and remote. When you first turn them on, you must press the little reset button on each within 60 seconds. Just so you know.

The blue train with Lance Armstrong (in yellow) at the Tour de Georgia 2004. This photograph was taken during the 128 mile stage 6 south of Hiawassee. The road leads to Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia.
